OUR WRIGHT AND PRICE FAMILIES TO AUSTRALIA |
CONCLUSION Except for the descendants of Ann WRIGHT (nee PRICE) the whereabouts of other descendants of the children of James and Anne PRICE are mostly unknown. Mona stated that eldest daughter, Charlotte, was unmarried. Third and fourth sons, George and John, whose families resided in Beaconsfield have descendants scattered throughout Tasmania and Victoria. Contact was made with some of the members of those families during interstate trips by Lemona, as discussed in this article. Daughter Alice, who died at Ballarat in 1883, left a husband and three teenage children who were never heard of again. Their surname was ORAFFERTY. This family had lived at Blackwood and Blue Hills. James Peter and his wife, Emma (nee SELLECK), had ten children, all born in Victoria. Birth places were at the various goldfields. The first child was born at Buninyong, the next six at Barrys Reef, the next at Dunolly and the last two at Inglewood. Nothing further is known of this family. William Walter who married Ann Jane (nee WESTABY), had seven children born between 1869 and 1879 in Victoria. Birth places were Durham, Buninyong and Barrys Reef. The whereabouts of the descendants of this family is unknown. Daughter Frances Elizabeth married Abilyam ALLEN and had seven children. They were born at Napoleons, Barrys Reef and Ballarat. One of the children, Hannah Christina, married a Wilfred FLANAGAN who Frances, and later Lemona, had contact with for many years. Thomas BROADHURST stayed with the FLANAGAN family in Melbourne whilst fleeing Tasmania to escape his father. Another daughter, Mary Ann Jane married Johan Edward MALMBERG and that family moved to Kalgoorlie and later to Nedlands. Lemona was friends with a daughter, Joyce. Nothing is known of the other five children. Mary Ann married William Stanley PHILPOT and after the birth of their first son at Geelong they moved to Collingwood where another three sons were born. Nothing further is known of that family.
Five Generations of Cresswell Family Dec 1988 Photograph courtesy Allan Cresswell There are numerous other documents and certificates in the possession of the writer that were not included in this article; some because of their poor condition, others because they contained duplicate information and some because of the need to restrict the amount of pages in this article. They are available for perusal at any time by interested persons. Chapter 12 show firstly a Chronological Listing for Alexander WRIGHT and his family, then a Family Tree Chart for the first three generations of the PRICE families in Australia, followed by Family Tree Charts for each of the WRIGHT children. Please refer to the main genealogy pages on this website for the lastest information as the Family Tree Charts relate to the situation back in 1996 when this article was written. As stated at the beginning of this article any correction or additional information will be gratefully received by the writer. It has been very rewarding meeting and speaking to many descendants of the PRICE and WRIGHT families. The fact that all the descendants of Alexander and Annie WRIGHT came to Western Australia gives credit to the strength and bonding of this family who always supported each other. From the goldfields and mines of Ballarat, Beaconsfield and Zeehan to the new life and start in Western Australia, the family always stuck together. That same support and help is still present in their ancestors today. I not only located distant cousins who willingly gave me information for this article but I discovered and gained new friends. All photographs used in this article are available for copying. Please contact me to arrange copies of photographs or of any documents shown in this article. The next chapter is titled 'Locating Our Price Cousins' and includes details of contacts made over the last ten years. |
